GENOCIDAL ATTACKS
AGAINST YAZIDI WOMEN AND
THE MEANS OF RESISTANCE
AND STRUGGLE

Self-organising, self-administrating and self-defending toward a liberated Shengal!

To mourn the second anniversary of the 73. genocide/feminicide on Yazidi people of the Shengal region (NORTHERN IRAQ), we the governing body of the Yazidi women council e.V. repeatedly condemn the misogynist gruesome assaults by IS terrorists. We mourn those who have fallen victim to the gruesome violence of the IS terrorists, those that have been captured, we mourn those whose traces irretrievably have been lost. At the same time we deeply welcome the creation of the self-organisational, self-administrating, and self-defence bodies of Shengal, that were created following the standards of democratic conferderalism, similar to those in Rojava.

The genocide/feminicide that occured on the 3. of August 2014 in the Shengal region has on one side lead to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, it has lead to the capturing, raping, forced conversion and murder of thousands of women and children. Trying to escape the terror, hundreds of old people and children died of thirst, hunger and exhaustion. Thousands of women and children are given away as presents to IS fighters or being sold for a couple of euros on slave markets organised by IS. Children are being trained as child soldiers. Thousands of people have fled to Rojava/western Kurdistan, whose population without the slightest support from outside bodies has been fighting the IS terrorism for the past four years. Or they tried to escape to northern Kurdistan (turkey), where as a proven fact the main supporter of IS sits, namely the AKP, with mister Erdogan at its center.

All of this has lead Yazidy people to try and escape into the safety to Europe on dangerous routes. Yazidy people have been stopped by the PDK (democratic party of Kurdistan) to return to Sengal. Those military forces in the north of Iraq that are partially responsible for this genocide/femicide to happen in the way it has in the first place.

The retread of the the PDK has lead to a population left behind without the assurance of any kind of safety, which made it possible for IS to begin their genocide/feminicide on Yazidi people in the first place. The PDK once more has the power of decision over the people from the Sengal region living presently in camps in northern Iraq. The federal republic of Germany has delivered weapons to the PDK and also leaves goods for humanitarian aid for these people to the administration of the PDK. The aid doesn`t even arrive in Sengal. On their flight to Europe whole families have drowned and still are in the Mediteranean sea. If lucky enough to arrive in Europe, those people already gone through a horror most unimaginable end up living next to their perpetrators, the terrorist of the IS. There have been have been numerous accounts of assaults by the IS terrorists over Yazidi people in camps. Many Yazidi people actually prefer to return to Shengal.

On the other hand, in order to guaranty a life of equality within a pluralistic, multi ethnical, multi religious, democratic society, a society wherein women are able to live freely, women have as a reaction to the still on going feminicide/genocide and the still widely spread sexist, nationalist conducts of states, military and radical groups within the region started to organise themselves on the basis of democratic confederalism. By this model of society, wherein all ethnical and religious groups, genders of all colors have a place, Yazidi people and all other people living within the region are esteeming to contain their diversity. All states that either stay silent toward the atrocities or support IS terrorism, especially Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Katar, the USA and some EU states are partially responsible for those massacres happening as we speak.

We as women shant be blind nor silent! We as women speak up about the genocide/feminicide and the massacres conducted by IS terrorists, may it be in Shengal, Kobane, Mosul or anywhere else in the world. More than ever we shall strengthen the self organisation of women.

We condemn the inhuman acts conducted by IS against human beings around the world, especially acts against women and children. We ask you to support our fight, and help strengthen the self organisation of women in Sengal. Our sisters in and from Shengal are not alone!
